Will AI replace content writers?
In today’s fast-paced digital age, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a ubiquitous presence in our lives, revolutionizing the way we work, communicate, and consume information. With the advancements in AI technology, the question arises: Can AI replace content writers? In this article, we will delve into the capabilities of AI in the realm of content writing, explore how different AI tools generates different content, and discuss the future of the field. Whether you’re a content creator, marketer, or simply curious about the topic, this article will provide valuable insights into the potential of AI in content writing.
The introduction you’ve just read is written by ChatGPT, a very popular AI tool from OpenAi. An AI talking about AI replacing human work, hmm…. I picked some of the latest and most popular Ai writing tools and asked them to write a simple introduction for an article. Let’s see how profound they were.
[Note: The cover image of this article(image above) is also generated by an AI named DALL.E from OpenAi]
So the question I asked was,
Write an introduction for a lifestyle article that talks about 10 thoughtful tips to change a persons view in life
Writesonic
“Everyone has their own unique perspective on life, and it’s important to take the time to reflect on it. In this article, we’ll explore 10 thoughtful tips to help you change your view on life and create a more positive outlook. From learning to live in the present moment to embracing change and self-care, these tips will give you the tools to look at life in a whole new way.”
A very basic introduction that is also straightforward and a bit catchy. Especially, the “take time to reflect on your perspective” part. I then asked the AI to modify the content a bit. I asked, “add humor to it”. It responded with,
“Humor can be a great way to lighten up a situation and make it more enjoyable. It can also be used to reconnect…”
So it seemed to have lost track of what we were talking about. I playfully asked, “what is writesonic?” and it got stuck for some reason.
After a while, it gave an error message saying “Please contact the support team”………….I beat the AI guys! 😀
Neuraltext
“If you’re looking for some helpful advice on how to live a better life, be sure to check out our list of 10 life changing tips. These tips will help you achieve anything that you set your mind to, and they’ll change your life for the better in the process. So what are you waiting for? Start living the life you’ve always wanted today!”
I liked the Writesonic response better. But still, this one seems passable. Seems more like an advertisement text for a “10 tips program”. There was no option to further instruct the tool, at least not on the free version. I would probably recommend this for a homework or college project where you’d have to just do it, but certainly not for professional content writing.
Copysmith.ai
Copysmith gave me several(6) introductions actually,
“The journey to a more positive outlook in life can be a difficult one, but it doesn’t have to be. Here’s 10 simple tips that can help anyone reframe their perspective and create a happier, more fulfilling life.”
“It’s easy to become overwhelmed when life throws us curve balls. But, with the right perspective, these moments can be a catalyst for positive change and growth. Here are 10 tips that may help you to gain a new outlook on life.”
“It doesn’t matter who you are, everyone can benefit from making a few positive changes in their life. But how do you go about doing this? Here are 10 tips that will help shift your perspective and enhance the way you approach life.”
and more…
And there were options to generate more. These introductions seem short, simple, and genuinely convincing. I would love it more if there was an option further modify the content by giving further instructions but It looks good enough for a Facebook ad or SEO content.
Rytr.me
When I searched Google for “AI-powered writing tool”, I came across Rytr.me. In response to my question, it wrote a full article instead of just the intro. Here are some “Life changing Tips” the tool came up with,
Tip 1: Take Time to Reflect on Your Own Values
Tip 2: Challenge Yourself to Try New Things
Tip 3: Make Connections with People From Different Backgrounds
Tip 4: Shift Your Attention Away From Negative Thoughts
Tip 5: Increase Self-Awareness Through Mindfulness Practices
…
Well, these sure are good life tips 🥱 but they seem very common and boring. Felt like something your office HR would say to motivate you(?). We’ll just move on to our next tool.
Peppertype.ai
This gave me a very similar response like Rytr.me but with a short straightforward introduction,
“How you think about life largely determines how you live it. If you want to make some changes in your life, start by changing your perspective. Here are 10 tips to help you do just that:
1. Don’t take things for granted.
2. Cherish relationships and cherish the time you have with loved ones.
3. Life is precious, so make the most of every moment.
4. Be positive and optimistic, even when things are tough.
5. Don’t dwell on the past, learn from it and move on.
6. Live in the present moment as much as possible.
…..”
The tips seemed a bit more advanced than Rytr.ai but nothing impressive. We’ll continue.
ChatGPT
“Welcome to our latest lifestyle article where we will be sharing 10 thoughtful tips to help change your perspective on life. So, whether you’re looking for a change or simply want to improve your outlook on life, keep reading to discover 10 simple yet powerful ways to shift your perspective.”
Interesting! The reply ChatGPT gave is way more thoughtful and detailed than Writesonic. “see the world in a different light, and to find more joy”, these lines definitely have a catchy vibe and would attract the readers. I asked it to add some emotions. So it started with,
“Life can be a rollercoaster of emotions, and sometimes it can be hard to see the silver lining. The daily struggles and stressors can make us feel overwhelmed, stuck, and lost. But with a few simple changes to your perspective, you can start to see the world in a whole new light and find peace and positivity in your life….”
I asked again to add some humor to it and,
“Life can be a wild and wacky ride, and sometimes it can be hard to see the sunshine through the storm clouds, even with sunglasses. The daily struggles and stressors can make us feel like we’re stuck in a never-ending cycle of “Groundhog Day” (except without the charming Bill Murray) or a bad sitcom. But with a few simple changes to your perspective, you can start to see the world in a whole new light and find the humor in even the toughest situations. In this article,….”
I’m impressed! The more I kept giving it instructions the more human-like responses I received. I took it to the next step asking, “write a 1000-word article on the subject”, and to my surprise, it did! Here are some tips from ChatGPT,
“Find humor in difficult situations: Laughing is one of the best ways to cope with stress. Even in difficult situations, try to find something to laugh about. This could be a silly meme, a funny video, or even a pun.”
“Find beauty in the ordinary: Sometimes, the most beautiful things in life are the things we take for granted. Start to notice the beauty in the ordinary, whether it’s the way the sunlight filters through the trees or the way the rain makes the pavement sparkle.”
“Practice gratitude: Gratitude is one of the most powerful tools for changing our perspective. When we focus on the things we are thankful for, it becomes difficult to feel negative. Start a gratitude journal where you write down three things you are thankful for each day.”
People are talking a lot about this tool and I can see why.
Conclusion
The topic of Artificial Intelligence is one of the peak interests for me. I’m so fascinated by the fact that a piece of software can communicate with you just like an intellectual. Most of the AI tools I came across, while my curious venture, are very predictable and smart up to a certain level. It’s very unlikely that I find an AI that goes beyond my expectation. I’ll have to say the responses from ChatGPT did blow over my expectations and I was clapping with awe. But at the same time, it raises that long-anticipated question, Will AI replace human workers? Will they take our jobs?
Well yes and no. The core functionality of an AI is to learn and improve itself. So with each interaction, we are having with an AI, it’s getting better…..and better…..and better. But like any other technology we invented in the past, we’ll adapt to it and find the next thing to do. I’ll conclude with a quote from LinkedIn I saw today,
“AI will not replace you, a person who’s using AI will”
